While he captained his country in more Tests than any player bar Allan Border, and achieved some notable highs in whitewashing England 5-0 in the 2006/07 Ashes and winning the 2007 Cricket World Cup, he was also the skipper who let slip Australia’s grip on the World Cup after three straight wins in 2011, and on the Ashes after an 18-year stretch of dominance in 2005.
