Jofra Archer hits Hashim Amla on the helmet with 90mph ball

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

South Africa opening batsman Hashim Amla was forced to retire hurt after being on the receiving end of a viscous Jofra Archer bouncer.

Amla was struck on the grille by the England opening bowler in his second over of the match, and was given a concussion test, which appeared to show something wrong with the batsman.

He subsequently left the field of play and No.3 Aidan Markram came to the crease. However, reports by broadcasters Sky Sports have since suggested that the batsman is “doing fine” and may still take further part in the match.

The incident comes after England posted 311-8 from their 50 overs. You can follow the scorecard here.
