Tour dates for England Test series in Sri Lanka announced

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

England will tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in March 2020, which will also mark their third series under the ICC World Test Championship.

England will play two Tests against the island nation, the first of which will be played at the Galle International Stadium from March 19. The second game, which was initially scheduled to be played at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium will now be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground, Colombo from March 27.

The Test series shall be preceded by two-practice games: a three-day and a four-day affair, both against Sri Lanka Cricket Board President’s XI to be played in Katunayake and Colombo respectively.

England are currently playing the third game of the four-match Test series against South Africa, which is currently locked at 1-1. Sri Lanka on the other hand played their last Test series in Pakistan: a two-game affair which they lost 0-1.

The Joe Root-led side had whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0 on their last tour in November 2018 and Sri Lanka’s last Test win against England dates back to June 2014: their 100-run triumph at Headingley that completed a historic series win.
