Alex Wakely’s testimonial year postponed till 2021

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Northamptonshire batsman Alex Wakely’s testimonial year has been postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The club had announced the decision to reward their former captain with a testimonial year in 2020 earlier this month. All events that had been announced, including a special evening with former England captain Alastair Cook and ex-rugby union player Dylan Hartley at Bedford School, have been cancelled.

“The Board of Directors have unanimously supported the request from Wakers to postpone his testimonial year,” said Northants chairman Gavin Warren.

“We believe Alex deserves the best opportunity to have successful year so we wish him luck in planning for that.”

“I’m gutted that I have to postpone my testimonial year but I also fully appreciate that there are far more important things to worry about at the moment,” said Wakely.

“Thank you to everyone that has helped to this point and I hope I can persuade you to help me again me when we start next year, stay safe!”
