Ottis Gibson keen on England coaching job – reports

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

South Africa head coach Ottis Gibson is reportedly keen to take up a similar role with England after the English summer, when Trevor Bayliss is expected to step down.

It was reported by The Sunday Times that Bayliss has turned down an offer to extend his contract, which is due to end after the marquee event at home.

Gibson, who will guide South Africa at the World Cup in England, is reportedly keen to be considered for the vacancy when England begin their search.

"It transpires that Bayliss has turned down several requests from the ECB"

Gibson is certainly no stranger to the England set-up having had two stints as the team’s bowling coach before taking up his current role with South Africa.

However, according to the report, the South African management team have insisted that “Ottis hasn’t spoken to anyone at the ECB or anywhere else”.

Gibson has enjoyed plenty of success with South Africa. Under his tutelage, the team have won 11 of 15 Tests, 15 of 25 ODIs and eight of 11 T20Is.
