Lancashire batsman Joe Burns returns to Australia for personal reasons

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Lancashire’s Australian batsman Joe Burns has returned to his homeland due to personal reasons.

The 29-year-old, who has also played for Glamorgan, Leicestershire and Middlesex, joined Lancashire for the 2019 county season in December along with international team-mate Glenn Maxwell. Burns only managed one appearance for the Red Rose outfit.

Burns has been replaced by Jake Lehmann, a fellow Australian and the son of former Australia coach Darren Lehmann, in Lancashire’s County Championship squad to face Worcestershire at Old Trafford, which got underway today. The batsman has already played four Royal London One-Day Cup matches this season.

A statement from the county club read: “Lancashire Cricket wishes Joe all the best, and it would be appreciated if his privacy is respected during this time.”
