David Warner hits Chris Gayle for 6, 4, 4 batting right-handed in the BPL

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Banned Australia opener David Warner lit up the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium with an unbeaten 61 off 36 balls for Sylhet Sixers against Rangpur Riders.

The highlight of his sparkling knock was undoubtedly his dismantling of Chris Gayle’s part-time off-spin. In what will surely be known as ‘the battle of the embattled openers’, the usually left-handed Warner took a right-handed stance midway through an over and subsequently hit the West Indian for a six and two fours in consecutive balls.

He has previously unveiled a switch hit in internationals for Australia, but a career change away from being a southpaw would be an unconventional choice even for Warner. His innings, the second half century he has hit in this BPL, lifted his side to 187-5. The Sixers went onto record a 27-run victory.
