Jonathan Trott gives David Warner a hilarious send-off

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott has delivered a simple but stinging message to David Warner in the wake of the ball-tampering affair that saw the Australian batsman receive a year-long ban from Cricket Australia.

In a short tweet, the subject of which was obvious, Trott gained thousands of interactions after writing, simply: “Goodbye David ?” following the news Warner had been banned and speculation that he may never again play for Australia.

England players have spoken of receiving general sledging from Warner in the past, but the Warwickshire man in particular has never forgotten the former Australian vice-captain’s words at the time of Trott’s own departure from the 2013/14 Ashes tour due to a stress-related illness.

Speaking in a press conference during the first Test of the series in Brisbane, Warner said: “It does look like they have got scared eyes at the moment.”

“The way Trotty got out today was pretty poor and weak.”

Warner later admitted he went a little too far with his comments, but Trott clearly hasn’t forgotten.
