Majid Haq, the former Scotland offspinner, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Covid-19, announcing the development on Twitter on Friday.

Haq, 37, who is of Pakistani descent, said that he was receiving treatment at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Glasgow’s Paisley Area.

“Looking forward to potentially getting back home today after testing positive with Coronavirus,” Haq wrote. “Staff at the RAH in Paisley have been good to me & thank you to everyone who has sent me messages of support.”

Haq represented Scotland in 54 ODIs and 21 T20Is between 2006 and 2015. He last played for his country during the 2015 World Cup, against Bangladesh in a fixture at the Saxton Oval in Nelson on New Zealand’s South Island.

An offspinner, Haq, with 60 wickets, was Scotland’s leading ODI wicket-taker until being overtaken by Safyaan Sharif in 2019. Since retiring from the international game, Haq has remained active in domestic cricket and captained Royal High Corstorphine CC in the Cricket Scotland League Eastern Premiership in 2019.
