Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have come in for flak from a section of Indian fans for backing Pakistan counterpart Shahid Afridi’s campaign to raise funds to fight Covid-19.

The former Pakistan all-rounder had tagged Yuvraj and Harbhajan on social media as part of his campaign to raise awareness and funds for his charity – the Shahid Afridi Foundation – to tackle the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in Pakistan.

Yuvraj and Harbhajan both took to social media to urge people to contribute to Afridi’s cause. Afridi in turn thanked them, but certain sections of the Indian fans took issue with Yuvraj and Harbhajan helping Afridi – the political tensions between India and Pakistan are well-documented.

Yuvraj then released a statement on Twitter, saying, “I really don’t understand how a msg to help the most vulnerable gets blown out of proportion!”

Harbhajan, meanwhile, tweeted “No religion, no cast, only humanity” and “spread love, not hate or virus”.
