Thailand hit one of the highest scores of the T20 World Cup against Pakistan

Thailand hit 150-3 against Pakistan earlier today in a rain-affected game in Sydney, the seventh highest score of the T20 World Cup so far.

Nattakan Chantam and Nattaya Boochatham put on 93 for the first wicket, the second highest opening partnership of the tournament and the fifth highest overall. Late cameos from Chanida Sutthiruang and wicketkeeper Nannapat Koncharoenkai then helped take Thailand to 150 against a Pakistan side who had beaten 2016 champions West Indies earlier in the tournament.

Unfortunately for Thailand, they never got the opportunity to defend their highest ever T20I total as rain brought a premature end to the game before the start of the Pakistan run chase. Had Pakistan successfully chased down the Thailand score, it would have been their highest ever successful run chase in women’s T20I cricket.

For Thailand though, they still had the consolation of registering their first ever point at a World Cup event.

The Thailand team appeared to enjoy themselves despite the missed opportunity of securing what would have been a historic maiden World Cup win. During the rain delay, a group of their players were filmed dancing joyously on the big screen. The video, later posted on the official T20 World Cup social media accounts, attracted praise from the likes of Rashid Khan and Adam Gilchrist on Twitter.
