Worcestershire pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi cancelled over coronavirus fears

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Worcestershire will not be traveling to Abu Dhabi for their pre-season tour due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The tour was originally scheduled to take place from March 18 to March 29 but has been cancelled after the club conducted their own internal risk assessment.

A statement from the club added: “Contingency plans at WCCC have been worked on since mid-February 2020 and we hope to be in a position to update members when these plans are concluded shortly.”

The cancellation is another spanner in the works for the club’s plans this year. Due to flooding over the winter, their first home County Championship match of the season against Sussex, beginning on April 25, will be held at Kidderminster Cricket Club instead of at New Road.

The tour was to include five days of cricket against Somerset. The cancellation follows in the footsteps of Lancashire, who have discarded their proposed pre-season plans in Dubai and South Africa.
