by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

With the cricketing summer well underway, find out what’s been going on in the club game in our monthly club cricket news round-up.

Sri Lanka’s Kaushal Silva, who played against England last winter, has signed for Mayfield CC for 2019. He has scored 2,099 runs in 39 Test matches including three centuries. He also has over 14,000 first-class runs. “We are delighted to have been able to attract a cricketer of Kaushal’s ability,” said director of cricket Andy Cornford. “We have some excellent young cricketers who will benefit greatly from playing and training with Kaushal.” Silva commented, “I can’t wait to join up with the team and meet the boys.”

A remarkable 10 players bagged ducks for Royston CC Third XI in their match with Newport Second XI. Only one player got off the mark as Royston were bowled out for a mere 39 runs in Junior League Four South of the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Cricket League.

Chelmsford under-11s hit 41 runs in the final over against Witham under-11s in an indoor league game. Jack Parrish (46*) and Rohan Hodivala (40*) were the batsmen responsible.

The Lord’s Taverners National Table Cricket Finals took place at Lord’s on Friday, June 7, with more than 300 schools having taken part throughout the year. The adapted version is played on a table-tennis table, designed to give young disabled people the chance to participate.
