England plan to play all 2020 home internationals at three venues – report

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

England are planning to play all their home internationals in the 2020 season at just three venues in an effort to ensure they can fulfill as much of their schedule as possible, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph.

With the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic having delayed the start of the county season, it is feared that postponements to England’s international engagements could soon follow. They are set to host West Indies, Australia, Pakistan and Ireland this summer.

The reported plan would see them play those games at just three venues, all of which have on-site hotels and training facilities. Those involved could stay on-site for the duration of a Test, or three ODIs played across five days, to minimise the risk of contracting Covid-19, with matches taking place behind closed doors.

The grounds mentioned are Old Trafford in Manchester, Headingley in Leeds, and the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
