Smriti Mandhana records 12th ODI century

India batted first in New Chandigarh after being put in by Australia skipper Alyssa Healy. Mandhana and Pratika Rawal put on yet another substantial stand of 70, with the senior batter taking the initiative before Rawal was removed for 25 in the 11th over by Ash Gardner. Five overs later, Mandhana made her way to a half-century off 45 balls, hitting Georgia Wareham over midwicket for six.

The Indian opener carried on in aggressive fashion through the middle overs, taking a particular liking to Wareham. A mix-up with Harleen Deol saw the No.3 run out, but Mandhana kept going. In the 29th over, she steppd out to hit Tahlia McGrath over mid-off, bringing up a century off 77 balls – getting from 50 to 100 in 32 deliveries.

Mandhana's effort is now the quickest women's ODI century against Australia, beating the record of 79 balls previously held by England's Nat Sciver-Brunt, achieved in Hamilton during the 2022 World Cup.

It was also Mandhana's 12th in ODI cricket, drawing her level with Tammy Beaumont for the third most in the format. Only Meg Lanning (15) and Suzie Bates (13) have more. During the course of her knock, she also completed 800 ODI runs for the year, making her the first Indian to the mark. Deepti Sharma's 787 in 2017 was as close as any Indian had come before this.

With one more ODI in this series, and potentially nine at this year's World Cup, Mandhana has an excellent chance to become the first woman to score 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year. The current record is Belinda Clark's 970 in 1997. Mandhana can also record the most ODI centuries in a calendar year – she has three in 2025, and the record is her four from last year.
