Virender Sehwag's son, Aaryavir, smashed 173 runs off 143 deliveries, helping Delhi U19 post 289 against Chandigarh U19 in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy on Friday, October 16.
Like his father, Aaryavir opened the batting in the 50-over game, and dominated the Chandigarh bowling attack at the ACA Sports Complex in Vizianagaram. Leading from the front as the captain, he scored 124 of his 173 runs solely through boundaries, striking 19 fours and eight sixes in a swashbuckling knock. Aaryavir was only dismissed in the 46th over of the innings, 27 short of a double hundred.
He stitched a 98-run partnership in just 13.2 overs with his opening partner Arnav Bugga, who scored 47 off 39 balls. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals at the other end but that didn’t deter the 18-year-old from playing his shots. His 173-run knock helped Delhi finish their innings on 289 runs in 50 overs.
Aaryavir hadn't managed to convert good starts into something big in the ongoing tournament, registering scores of 54, 46 and 32, respectively, in the last three matches. He also turned up for India U19 last month in a three-ODI series against Australia U19, alongside Rahul Dravid's son, Anvay, and impressed with his strokeplay.
Aaryavir scored 109 runs across three innings at an impressive strike rate of 103.81, but a truly substantial score escaped him despite consistent starts.

Despite his 173-run knock, Delhi couldn’t cross the 300-run mark as there was little support at the other end. Apart from Bugga, only two other batters reached double figures - Abhiraj Gagan Singh (18) and Shantanu Yadav (27*).
As for Delhi, they have lost their way after starting the season on a high against Gujarat, where they chased down 339 successfully. They then lost to Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka before their game against Jharkhand was washed out.
