Samiun Basir Ratul, who represented Bangladesh in the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year, scored his maiden senior hundred, making 116* in just 70 balls during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League clash.

Playing for Legends of Rupganj against Bashundhara Strikers in Bangladesh’s premier List A cricket tournament, Basir walked out to bat in the 28th over of the first innings. Rupganj had slumped to 80-4 before Aich Mollah and Tanbir Hayder put on 90 runs for the fifth wicket. Mollah departed for 62 off 71 balls when Basir came in.

Rupganj lost their sixth wicket – Hayder – soon after, but Basir steadied the innings. He took the attack to the opposition, bringing up his maiden List A fifty in 37 balls before taking another 27 balls for his next fifty, reaching his ton in 64 deliveries. His efforts helped Rupganj post 358-8 in their quota of overs.

The total was too steep for the Strikers, who were all out for 275. Basir was also the star with the ball, picking up 3-42 to put in an all-round effort.
