Longridge Cricket Club amassed 447-4 in 40 overs in an away game against Whalley Cricket Club. Coming to bat at one-drop, de Villiers starred in the Longridge innings with an 88-ball 247 with 23 fours and 22 sixes – the highest individual score in the history of the club.

The highlight of the onslaught was the 36th over of the innings, bowled by Joshua Denrith, where de Villiers hit a six off every ball.
De Villiers was supported by the openers Joshua Mullin (50 in 48 balls, eight fours) and Rhys Morgan (63 in 44, nine fours, two sixes) as well as No.4 Rob Hollinghurst (53 in 55, four fours, two sixes). Of the eight bowlers used by Whalley, Edward Burrow (8-0-63-1) was the only one to go for under eight while bowling three or more overs.
In response, Whalley collapsed to 112 in 39 overs to lose by 335 runs. Four of their batters reached double figures, but none of them reached 20. Whitehead claimed 4-15 from his three overs. Keeping wicket, de Villiers held two catches.
Who is Matt de Villiers?
De Villiers plays for Warriors in South African domestic cricket. Picked up by the Joburg Super Kings for the 2026 edition of the SA20, he scored 151 runs in 11 games while striking at 116.
After the league got over, he scored 133 in 77 balls (17 fours, five sixes) against Boland and 113 in 101 balls (15 fours, two sixes) in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge Division One – in March.
