Fazal slammed an unbeaten 309 off just 339 deliveries with 29 fours and 11 sixes to power his team to a strong total. His opening partner Hasan Raza was also terrific, smashing 222 off 221 balls, as the duo stitched 417 runs together for the opening wicket, the third-highest opening partnership in first-class cricket in Pakistan.

Even after Hasan's dismissal, Fazal continued to pile on the runs. His previous highest first-class score of 182 was comfortably surpassed, as he first completed a maiden double ton, before converting it into a triple. On the way to his sensational 309, the 23-year-old completed 2000 runs in first-class cricket at 47.46 in 51 innings, with five centuries and 12 fifties to his credit.
The game also marks his comeback from a lower-back injury, which he sustained on the West Indies tour earlier this year. The injury ruled him out of the two Tests in the Caribbean and the subsequent England tour. He was among the reinforcements picked for the third England Test after the board dramatically sent back seven players and sacked the head coach and bowling coach midway through the series. However, he couldn’t make the playing XI.
Fazal notably made his Test debut earlier this year in May in the two-match series against Bangladesh. He was impressive in the first Test, notching up twin half-centuries but returned with scores of 9 and 6 in the second. He was also set to open for Pakistan in the Test series against the West Indies and had scored 50* and 48* in the warm-up game before injury ruled him out of action.
