Abhishek Sharma led from the front as his all-round skills helped Amritsar Soormas beat Shubman Gill’s Fazilka Falcons in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League on Monday, September 7.
The clash between the Soormas and the Falcons was headlined by the Abhishek-Shubman face-off. The India T20I opener was the clear winner, as he not only dismissed his national teammate but also got his side off to a terrific start with the bat, helping them chase down 192.
After being put in to bat, the Falcons lost a couple of early wickets, but skipper Gill led from the front to smash 67 runs off just 35 deliveries with eight fours and three sixes. Gill had the upper hand to start with in the duo's friendly battle. He smashed Abhishek’s left-arm spin for two sixes and a four in the 10th over, but soon holed out in the deep.
He rocked back to a short delivery, trying to smash the third six of the over, only to find Naman Dhir at deep mid-wicket. His dismissal left the Falcons at 92-3 after 10 overs. Abhishek had also picked up Anshul Chaudhary’s wicket earlier in the game and finished with 2-37 in his four overs.

The 192-run chase was not going to be easy for the Soormas, but Abhishek smashed his way to 49 off 15, with six fours and four sixes. Interestingly, it was Gill who caught Abhishek off right-arm quick Garv Kumar's bowling on the last delivery of the powerplay.
But Soormas had raced to 79 by then and eventually chased down the target with three balls and four wickets to spare. Rahul Kumar smashed an unbeaten half-century (53* off 35 balls) after his captain’s breezy knock to take his team over the line.
The Soormas, however, remained at the bottom of the points table with two wins in five matches. The Falcons are fourth with three wins and as many defeats so far.
