Pakistan all-rounder Abbas Afridi, leading the side, hit six sixes in a row in an entertaining start to the Hong Kong Sixes.

The six-a-side game, played for six overs each, saw Abbas coming in at four and smashing 55 off 12 balls, one four and eight sixes included. As per tournament rules, he retired upon reaching fifty, but not before he hit six sixes in an over.

Pakistan hit 67 runs in their last two overs to chase down 124 against Kuwait, Shahid Aziz closing the game with a 5-ball 23.

      Hong Kong Sixes 2025: All the squads

      Earlier, Kuwait hit 123-2, with Meet Bhavsar scoring 41 off 14, and Bilal Tahir hitting 24 off 6. Keeper Usman Patel also got 31 off 9, but it wasn't enough to seal a win.

      The 24-year-old Afridi, who played for Pakistan as recently as July, also took the wicket of Adnan Idrees, finishing with the second-best economy among the lot of bowlers.

      The usually relentless schedule of the tournament means ten matches are slated in a single day. Pakistan play India later in the day, with 12 teams divided across four groups participating in all.

      Afridi's batting record is an intriguing one: while this knock won't be added to his professional numbers, he is yet to hit a fifty in T20s or first-class cricket. However, he has a List A hundred, having not scored a fifty otherwise.

      Interestingly, he played in the previous round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy that ended earlier in the week.

      BBL all-rounder Jack Wood hits fifty

      Elsewhere, Australia hit 11 sixes in 18 balls to chase down 88 against UAE. Jack Wood hit 55 off 11, seven sixes and three fours included. The 29-year-old Wood has only played six T20s, all in the last edition of the BBL, but impressed in patches as opener for Brisbane Heat, scoring 117 runs at a strike-rate of 127.
