Umran Malik was taken to the cleaners in the DY Patil T20 Cup, leaking 59 runs in two overs.
Playing for Tata Sports Club against Mumbai Customs, Umran Malik opened the bowling alongside captain Shardul Thakur while defending 193. After Thakur was sent for 10 runs in the opening over, the Jammu & Kashmir pacer conceded 23 runs in the second, with Rugved More hitting a four and three sixes in the over.
Umran was taken out of the attack immediately, and only returned in the 13th with Tata SC in desperate need of a wicket. Mumbai Customs’ openers, More and Sachin Yadav, had together added 128 runs by then, and needed 65 more in eight overs to win the game. But he couldn’t keep a lid on the scoring, let alone pick up a wicket.

After a single off the first ball, More hit a four on the second and a maximum on the third, which was a no-ball. Though the free hit didn’t fetch any runs, More sent the next two balls for 10 runs again – a six and a boundary. A wide and a no-ball followed, with Yadav hitting the resulting free hit for a four, which was again an illegal delivery, and the last ball, a free hit, was again sent for a six.
The over cost Tata SC 36 runs, and Umran’s figures read 2-0-59-0. Mumbai Customs needed just 29 runs in 42 deliveries to win, which they did in only 18 more balls to chase down 193 in 16 overs. More completed a 45-ball century and finished at 101 off 46.
He has played 10 ODIs and eight T20Is for India, but the last of his international caps came in 2023. Umran was retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of last year’s IPL auction. He also featured for J&K in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, picking up six wickets in five matches, with an economy rate of almost 10.

Earlier in the game, Aryan Patni’s 35-ball 58, along with lower-order cameos from Thakur (11 off three) and Harsh Tyagi (11 off five), had taken Tata SC to a healthy 192-7 in 20 overs. This was their second defeat in as many games of DY Patil T20 Cup 2026, while Mumbai Customs made it two wins in two matches.
