
South Africa A spinner Tsepo Ndwandwa picked up all seven wickets to fall in New Zealand A’s declared innings during the first unofficial Test between the two sides.
The multi-format series has already seen South Africa A win the List A series 2-1 at home. New Zealand bounced back with a stellar batting display in the first innings of the Test at Potchefstroom, making 607-7d in the first innings. Openers Rhys Mariu (249 in 258) and Dale Phillips (103) laid the foundation with a 230-run stand, before skipper Joe Carter and Mitchell Hay contributed with fifties, taking the score over 600, before declaring.

While the innings belonged to the batters, Ndwandwa created a quiet impact of his own. Bowling first change, he picked up all seven wickets to fall in the innings, ending with figures of 7-206 in 44.5 overs. However, he was also the only bowler from the side to concede over 150 runs, bowling nearly 18 overs more than Tshepo Moreki, who sent down 27.
Who is Tsepo Ndwandwa?
The 30-year-old, a slow left-arm spinner, made his domestic debut in 2016, having emerged from playing age-group cricket for Eastern Province. He has played 49 red-ball games, picking up 132 scalps at 28.54, with seven five-wicket hauls. He also has 39 List A and 19 T20 wickets across 59 matches.
He was picked for the South Africa Emerging Players tour of Bangladesh earlier this year and claimed claimed five wickets, including 3-28 in the third ODI.
Ndwandwa also took two wickets in the second innings against New Zealand A, who took a 498-run lead after bowling out South Africa in their first essay. The hosts have already lost opener Lesego in the run chase.
