An extraordinary piece of fortune from Himmat Singh turned what looked like a certain defeat into one of the most bizarre run-outs in the Delhi Premier League on Tuesday.
Outer Delhi Warriors needed just one run from the final ball of the 15-over contest to seal victory in the run chase of 157. The batter, Pratham Saluja, miscued an attempted big hit, sending the ball straight back down the pitch towards Himmat, who was stationed near the non-striker's end. Although the single looked impossible, both batters sprinted through in a desperate bid to complete the winning run.
Himmat gathered the ball but fumbled what should have been a routine run-out. In visible frustration, he lashed out with his left foot at the loose ball and landed a perfect shot as it ricocheted into the stumps at the non-striker's end before Saluja could make his ground, astonishingly forcing a Super Over.
The dramatic moment quickly went viral on social media. Himmat's reaction summed up the chaos, with his disappointment instantly turning into jubilation as the bails came off, while several of his teammates, who had already begun to despair, were left stunned by the unlikely dismissal.
Despite the dramatic twist, Outer Delhi Warriors recovered to win the match in the Super Over.
Himmat made his Indian Premier League debut for Lucknow Super Giants in 2025 after joining as a replacement for Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. He had earned the opportunity following an impressive 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign, where he scored 197 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 148.
His IPL returns have been modest so far. He did not get an opportunity to bat in his three appearances in 2025, while in the 2026 season he scored 92 runs in six matches at an average of 30.67 and a strike rate of 133.33.
The 2026 Delhi Premier League began on July 31. The league stage will conclude on August 25, with the final scheduled for August 30.
