Afghanistan and Bangladesh will meet each other in the longer format for only the third time, having previously faced off in 2019 and 2023. The two teams have one win each. Bangladesh are coming on the back of a historic Test win in Darwin on their tour of Australia, while Afghanistan have their work cut out after suffering a heavy defeat against India in Mullanpur in June.
This will be the first Test assignment for the new Afghanistan skipper Rahmat Shah, taking over from Hashmatullah Shahidi. They have dropped the left-arm spin pair of Sharafuddin Ashraf and Nangeyalia Kharote, while retaining wrist spinners Qais Ahmad and Khalil Gurbaz. Zia-ur-Rehman is also returning to the side after a year.
For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud, who was instrumental in the Darwin Test win, continued his form for Kent in the County Championship. Towhid Hridoy, who recently scored a record-breaking unbeaten 352 against South Africa A in Potchefstroom, can be key for the visitors.
The one-off Test will begin at 10am local time (11:30am IST, 7am UK time).
