Afghanistan Test captain Hashmatullah Shahidi smashed his third first-class double ton, scoring 205 in the Ahmad Shah Abdali four-day tournament on Tuesday (May 6).
Playing for Hindukush Strikers, Shahidi walked out to bat at No.4 after the top-order had collapsed to 39-3 against Mah-e-Par in Amanullah. Along with Bilal Ahmed (80) and then Ismat Alam (51), Shahidi helped the team recover, taking them to 360-5 on stumps on day one (Monday, May 5).
Shahidi, who had an overnight score of 198, brought up his double century on Tuesday, but departed soon after, scoring 205 in 280 deliveries with 22 fours and two sixes.
Hindukush scored 405 in the innings and were leading by 226 runs at the end of day two, with Mah-e-Par on 179-4. Another Afghanistan international, Shahidullah (74*), was leading the charge for the side.
Third first-class double ton for Hashmatullah Shahidi
Shahidi had become the first Test double centurion for Afghanistan when he got to the landmark against Zimbabwe in 2021. Asghar Afghan had also scored 164 in the innings, in which Shahidi was unbeaten on 200* off 443 balls.
His second double ton also came against Zimbabwe, during the Test at Bulawayo in December 2024. The hosts posted 586 in the first innings, and it needed a massive fightback from Afghanistan. Shahidi, along with Rahmat Shah, scored their respective double centuries, as Afghanistan replied with 699 all out. His 246 was also the highest Test score for the country. The match ended in a draw.
Overall, Shahidi has eight first-class hundreds along with six fifties in 54 innings, scoring 2,326 runs at an average of 49.49. He had made his first-class debut in 2013 with a duck in his maiden innings.
