Arjun Tendulkar picks up five-for in KSCA invitational tournament

The second round of the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament, an invitational competition organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) kicked off on Tuesday, September 9. It generally serves as preparation for the upcoming domestic season.

At the Golden Oval in Alur, Goa faced off against Maharashtra, who won the toss and elected to bat first. They were in trouble instantly, as Anirudha Sabale was removed by left-arm quick Arjun Tendulkar off the very first ball.

Sabale's opening partner, Mahesh Mhaske, followed him back to the dugout not long after, trapped lbw by Tendulkar in the third over. The following over, Lakhmesh Pawane removed Yash Kshirsagar, before Tendulkar struck for a third time, knocking back Digvijay Patil's stumps to leave Maharashtra in disarray at 15-4.

No.6 Mehul Patel attempted to hold the innings together, but Goa struck at regular intervals to peg Maharashtra back. Tendulkar returned in the 39th over of the innings to dismiss Mehul, who became the ninth wicket to fall, for 54. In his next over, Tendulkar had No.11 Nadeem Shaikh caught by Deepraj Gaonkar to bowl Maharashtra out for 136. He also completed his five-wicket haul, finishing with 5-36 in 14 overs.

Goa then went on to score 333, and Tendulkar contributed with an unbeaten 36 off 44 balls from No.9. There were half-centuries for Abhinav Tejrana (77), Darshan Misal (61) and Mohit Redkar (58). Maharashtra reached 127-2 in their second innings by stumps on day two.

Born in Mumbai, Tendulkar played twice for them in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before moving to Goa in 2022. He scored a century on first-class debut, as Sachin had also done. Arjun has also played five times across two IPL seasons, for Mumbai Indians.
