India went up 4-2 in the multi-format series with a 2-1 win in the T20Is, but Australia hit back with a clean sweep of the ODIs to take an unassailable 8-4 lead. The best India can do now is to level the series 8-8 – and for that, they need to win the day-night Test match at Perth and secure four full points. The Test match will be the last international game in Australia captain Alyssa Healy’s illustrious career.
Australia hold a 4-1 head-to-head lead over India, but the last of their wins came in 2005/06. Since then the two teams have met only twice. India took a 136-run lead in the drawn Test at Carrara in 2021/22 in the only day-night Test between the sides, while they beat Australia by eight wickets at Mumbai in 2023/24.
