Australia have announced a 14-member squad for their upcoming three-match T20I series against New Zealand starting October 1.
Pat Cummins ruled out, Marcus Stoinis returns
Australia men’s Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins will miss the upcoming T20Is after experiencing lumbar bone stress following the recent Caribbean tour. In a bid to be fit for the Ashes, which starts on November 21, he will also miss the three ODIs and five T20Is against India at home beginning on October 19.
Another significant selection call is the return of Marcus Stoinis to the Australia squad for the first time since November last year. Stoinis, who is yet to play a Test for Australia, had called time on his ODI career in February, before the Champions Trophy.

Since then, he has had two runner-up finishes in three global franchise T20 leagues: with the Punjab Kings in the IPL and with Trent Rockets in the Men’s Hundred. He was also involved in Texas Super Kings’ playoff run in MLC 2025.
Also returning to the squad are all-rounders Mitch Owen and Matt Short. Owen comes back after missing the final T20I against South Africa and the subsequent ODI series against them due to a concussion, while Short is returning after missing the West Indies series in July due to a side strain sustained in training. Short also suffered a quad injury, which ruled him out of Australia’s Champions Trophy semi-final against India and hasn’t played an international match since then.
Nathan Ellis unavailable due to paternity leave
Seamer Nathan Ellis is unavailable as he is on paternity leave, expecting his first child. That has opened the door for pacer Xavier Bartlett to return to the side, having missed the three-match series against South Africa. Bartlett was Australia's leading wicket-taker among pacers in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa.
Alex Carey and Aaron Hardie have been left out after being selected as injury replacements for the series against the West Indies, along with Cameron Green. Green has prioritised playing the early rounds of the Sheffield Shield for Western Australia in a bid to get back to bowling following his return from a long injury hiatus.
