Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry joined an exclusive club during the one-off Test against India on Saturday.
Ellyse Perry joins Charlotte Edwards in club of two
On day one of the match (March 6) at the WACA, Australia skipper Alyssa Healy chose to field first after winning the toss. Her bowlers put in a solid show, knocking the visitors over for 198. Jemimah Rodrigues top-scored with 52, while Annabel Sutherland returned career-best figures of 4-46.
Three Australian wickets went down in the night session, bringing Sutherland and Ellyse Perry together at the crease. They pushed home Australia's advantage on the morning of day two, putting on 128 before Perry departed for 76.
Shortly before being trapped lbw by Deepti Sharma, Perry had gotten to the mark of 1,000 Test runs, making her the 11th woman to do so. With this, she also completed 1,000 runs each in Test, ODI and T20I cricket; former England captain and current head coach Charlotte Edwards is the only other one to do so.
Perry also went past Karen Rolton's tally of 1,002 Test runs to become Australia's highest scorer in the format. She now has 1,006 runs from 15 Tests – putting her 10th on the all-time run-scoring chart. Of the batters with more runs, only Enid Bakewell (59.88) has a better average than Perry’s 59.17.
