India beat Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in New Chandigarh to register their biggest-ever win in Test cricket.

India made light work of the Afghanistan challenge, defeating them handsomely within three days in their one-off Test. They posted 564 batting first before bowling out Afghanistan twice, for 152 and 112, to win by an innings and 300 runs, their biggest-ever innings win and the tenth-biggest overall in the history of the game.

KL Rahul (100) and Shubman Gill (126) tonned up in the first innings, while Rishabh Pant scored 81 in his usual style. Washington Sundar remained unbeaten on 52, while debutant left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Manav Suthar contributed with a 41-ball 28 before turning up with the ball.

Suthar took a six-wicket haul in his first innings in Test cricket (6-33), overtaking Ravichandran Ashwin to register the third-best figures by an Indian on Test debut. Prasidh Krishna took three wickets, while Rahmat Shah (60) was the only visiting batter to score more than 20 runs. Afghanistan were bowled out for 152, and India enforced a follow-on.

Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav then ran through the Afghan batting line-up, taking seven wickets between them. Afghanistan’s second innings lasted just over a session, and India eventually completed their biggest-ever innings win in Tests. Their previous best was the thrashing of the West Indies by an innings and 272 runs in 2018 in Rajkot. India's biggest win by runs in the format also came in Rajkot - against England in 2024 (434 runs).
