The bizarre incident happened during the first semifinal of Canada Super60 between Toronto Sixers and Mississauga Masters on Sunday, October 4.
Canada Super60 produces yet another bizarre moment!
Ali Khan was bowling the ninth over for the Masters, when he sent in a bouncer to Sixers skipper Kieron Pollard. However, the ball was quite short and went over the batter’s and the wicketkeeper’s heads to land directly over the ropes at the BC Place in Vancouver, which has attracted eyeballs for its very small boundary size.

The umpire signalled five wides, which left fans bemused. Many claimed the batting team should have been awarded seven runs through a wide and a six. However, a team can score a six only if the ball is hit by the bat.
Clause 19.7.1 of the MCC Laws of Cricket, which deals with the runs scored from boundaries, states, “A boundary 6 will be scored if and only if the ball has been struck by the bat and is first grounded beyond the boundary without having been in contact with the ground within the field of play. This shall apply even if the ball has previously touched a fielder.”

In response, the Masters started well, with openers Alex Lees and George Munsey adding 49 runs in just 14 balls. But they lost their way after the duo fell, finishing on 121-7 as the Sixers stormed into the final and eventually won the tournament. They chased down 165 runs to beat the Vancouver Anchors by five wickets to lift the trophy later on the same day.
