Brian Lara

Brian Lara made a comeback to club cricket in the Caribbean this weekend, returning to his boyhood club to help them to an eight-wicket win in the North Zone Cricket Council T20 Festival in Trinidad and Tobago.

The West Indies legend turned out for Harvard Sports Club for their match over Ebony Sports at the Diego Martin Regional Sports Complex for the 15-over-a-side game on Saturday (September 13).

Lara came out to bat at No.4, in a show of confidence for the team's top three who stepped up ahead of the holder of the highest score in Test cricket's history. At 48-2, Lara strolled to the crease and cut his first delivery to the square boundary to get off the mark. He finished his innings not out on 26 in the chase, and hit the winning runs in an unbroken partnership with Andre Yard.

Harvard finished their innings on 104-2, with Ebony having set them 101 to win after they scored 100-6 from their 15 overs. The match was supposed to be a 20-over contest but rain meant that overs were lost. Opener Clevon Frederick was Ebony's top-scorer, with 19 off 27 deliveries before Jerome Lacario added another 16 from 20 balls.

Earlier this year, Lara played in the International Masters league in India, representing West Indies Masters who finished as runners-up in the tournament. He retired from international cricket in 2007, but continued to play in franchise and T20 leagues following the end of his West Indies career. He ended his Test career with 11,953 runs from 131 matches, and remains the leading Test match run-scorer of all time for West Indies.
