Brother of sidelined Australia Test opener to play for Greece in 2028 T20 World Cup Qualifier

Billy has been included in the 14-member Greece squad for the 2028 T20 World Cup qualifying tournament in Finland that will be played from August 14 to 21.

Four years older than Australia’s sidelined Test opener Sam Konstas, Billy plays cricket alongside his coaching and physiotherapist jobs.

For the unversed, Sam made the headlines on his Test debut in December 2024 for playing a ramp shot off Jasprit Bumrah multiple times. But his career didn’t take off as expected, and he was dropped after four more Tests, with his last appearance coming in July 2025.

Who is Billy Konstas?

Billy has played 247 matches in his career so far across all clubs and formats, scoring 5,638 runs with 31 fifties and five hundreds. He has also picked 132 wickets. In the current season, he has batted in 16 innings for Sutherland District, turning out for them in all three formats. Overall, he has played 24 T20 matches for all clubs, making 605 runs at 60.50, and also taken 13 scalps at an average of 22.38.

Sam and Billy's parents, Pamela and Jim, are of Greek heritage, enabling him to obtain Greek citizenship and represent Greece under the ICC Player Eligibility Regulations.

As per a BBC report, Blake Faunce is another Greek-Aussie player included in the Greece squad. The 21-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder has played representative age-group cricket for the Australian Capital Territory.

A total of 10 teams, including Greece, will participate in the Sub-Regional qualifier, with each side playing four games. Greece will face the Czech Republic, Portugal, Germany and Israel. The team that wins the competition will qualify for the Europe Regional Final.
