Cooch Behar Trophy 2025-26 Final: Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh’s road to the summit clash
Madhya Pradesh were drawn in Group A alongside defending champions Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar and Tripura. They began their campaign with a 10-wicket defeat to Tamil Nadu, before bouncing back to win all of their remaining five matches.
MP opened their account with an innings and 140 runs win over Tripura before a nine-wicket win over Bihar. They then registered their second innings win, over Delhi, and beat Haryana by five wickets to finish with 26 points. Their stellar form saw them become the best second-placed team across the five groups and qualify directly for the quarter-finals.
MP beat Goa handsomely by an innings and 105 runs to book their spot in the semi-finals, where they faced Tamil Nadu again, but this time they came out on top, courtesy of a first-innings lead, sending them into the final.
Gujarat, meanwhile, topped Group B, going undefeated in the group stage with three wins and two draws to take them to 24 points. They started with a six-wicket win over Jammu and Kashmir, followed by a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan.
Gujarat then played consecutive draws with Mumbai and Pondicherry next, but took crucial first-innings leads in both those games, and then defeated Vidarbha in a low-scoring thriller by six runs to qualify for the quarter-finals. First-innings leads against Karnataka in the last eight and Punjab in the semi-finals, then took them to the decider against Madhya Pradesh.
