timed out in Sussex v Buckinghamshire

In a first-round match of the T20 Women’s County Cup, Buckinghamshire successfully got a timed out decision against Sussex.

Sussex posted 124-8 in 20 overs at the County Ground in Hove after Buckinghamshire captain Cara Duggan won the toss and opted to field. Early strikes by Natasha MacBean reduced the tourists to 8-3 before Phoebe Wilkinson (27 in 28 balls), Talitha Stanley (29 not out in 32), and Eve O’Neill (20 in 20) led Sussex’s resurgence.

MacBean came to bowl the last ball of the final over. The ball was a wide, off which Tilly Fellows stumped Lottie Curling to give MacBean her fifth wicket. Since this was a wide, one ball still remained in the innings. Unfortunately, Sussex No.9 Anna Lewis was not ready to come out to bat.

Lewis put her pads on and scrambled to the crease, but it was in vain. Upon her arrival, the umpire immediately ruled her timed out, and she had to leave. All this bought No.10 Beth Harvey – who was not ready either – enough time to arrive at the crease. Sussex, thus, lost two wickets without a legal ball being bowled. When the last ball finally got over, they got to 124-8.

At the time of writing, Buckinghamshire were 25-2 in 6.2 overs with Tegan Stockdale (14) and Beth Talbot (7) at the crease.
