Cricket news today: Babar Azam continues century drought, Rohit-Kohli's ODI future under scanner

Babar Azam, dismissed for a duck in the second ODI against the West Indies, last scored an international century in August 2023. In 71 innings since, he is yet to cross triple-digits even once, and has registered 18 fifties with a high score of 81 across formats.

Aged 19 years and 124 days, the South African quick is the youngest from a Full Member to take four wickets in a men's T20I. His efforts, however, went in vain, as Australia beat South Africa by 17 runs. 

Yash Dayal, who was set to represent Gorakhpur Lions in the upcoming UP T20 League, has reportedly been barred from participating after a police case was registered against him recently. 

Jasprit Bumrah's workload management has been in the news of late after he played just three of five Tests in England. Former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar believes he should have skipped the 2025 IPL to remain fresh for the Test series. 

With the ODI World Cup scheduled for 2027, speculation is rife about the future of India's stalwarts. However, according to The Economic Times, a BCCI source is non-committal, stating that their immediate focus is on next year's T20 World Cup. "Obviously, if they (Rohit and Kohli) have something in mind, they would tell the BCCI brass like they did before the England Test tour. But from an Indian team's perspective, the next big assignment is the T20 World Cup in February and preparations before that. The immediate focus will be on sending the best team for the Asia Cup T20 tournament, hoping all players are fit and available."
