Uncapped youngsters Dewald Brevis and Lhuan-dre Pretorius have been called up to South Africa's Test squad for the two-Test series against Zimbabwe.
Dewald Brevis, Lhuan-dre Pretorius named in South Africa Test squad
Brevis, 22, received his maiden Test call-up last October, when he was named as cover after skipper Temba Bavuma picked up an injury during the Proteas' tour of Bangladesh. He enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season across formats – no one hit more than his 25 sixes in this year's SA20 – and maintained batting averages of 47.8 and 66.3 in first-class and List A domestic cricket respectively.

Still only 19, left-handed wicketkeeper Lhuan-dre Pretorius represented South Africa in the 2024 U19 World Cup, and took the SA20 by storm, finishing as the top run-scorer in that competition. He has played just six first-class matches, but already has three centuries to his name, including two in his first two innings – a national record.

Brevis and Pretorius, who both play for the Titans in domestic cricket, both earned IPL deals as replacement players, for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals respectively. The pair will also join forces at Hampshire in the T20 Blast. Brevis already made an impression on debut, while Pretorius is set to be available from June, after representing South Africa A in the West Indies.
Zubayr Hamza earns Test recall; Senokwane, Yusuf, Subrayen also called up
In a squad lacking experience as CSA have chosen to rest the majority of their first-choice players, there is a recall for batter Zubayr Hamza, whose eight Tests have been spread across five years. The last of them was in 2024, when South Africa named a weakened side to tour New Zealand as the series clashed with the SA20.
Brevis and Pretorius' Titans teammate Lesego Senokwane has received a maiden Test call-up, as has pacer Codi Yusuf. Prenelan Subrayen is the other player in the squad potentially in line for a Test debut.
Both Tests against Zimbabwe will be at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo – the first from June 28 to July 2, and the second from July 6 to 10.
