Ryana MacDonald-Gay

Ryana MacDonald-Gay set a new record for best figures in women’s T20 cricket in the English domestic circuit.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay creates history

MacDonald-Gay took 6-11 in her quota of four overs to help Surrey bowl out Durham for 102 in 17 overs in a Vitality Blast Women game after Surrey captain Bryony Smith won the toss and opted to field at The Oval.

MacDonald-Gay struck in three bursts of two wickets off consecutive balls – Emily Windsor and Heather Graham in the seventh over, Mia Rogers and Grace Thompson in the 12th, and Sophia Turner and Trudy Johnson in the 16th. Unfortunately, she could not convert any of these to a hat-trick. For Durham, Bess Heath (28 in 25 balls) was the only one to put up some resistance.

These are now the best figures in English domestic women’s T20 cricket, improving on Providence Cowdrill’s 6-27 for Hampshire against Somerset in 2018.

Surrey then collapsed from 37-1 to 42-4, and from 71-5 to 94-8 against Lauren Flier (2-30), Johnson (2-30), and Heather Graham (3-19) even as Jemima Spence hit a 17-ball 24. Alice Monaghan (20 not out in 19) then saw them through.
