Pakistan have made four changes to their playing XI from the first Test. Mohammad Abbas is one of them.
Pakistan leave out Mohammad Abbas for second West Indies Test
The West Indies had won the first Test of the two-match series, at Tarouba, by 90 runs to go 1-0 up. In a low-scoring Test match, all 40 wickets fell to seamers. For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas claimed 3-63 and 5-22. Batting at No.11, he even scored 23 in the fourth innings in a last-wicket stand of 49.
Despite being one of Pakistan’s best performers, the team management left him out of the playing XI for the second Test match, at Port of Spain. At the toss, captain Babar Azam explained that Abbas was left out because of “the conditions”. The decision seemed surprising, for Abbas has the best bowling average among Pakistan bowlers with 100 Test wickets.
In fact, Abbas was one of four cricketers from the playing XI of the first Test whom are sitting out of the second. Apart from the injured Shan Masood, who scored a hundred in Tarouba, Aamer Jamal and Khurram Shahzad are also missing the Test. Pakistan have replaced them with Abdullah Shafique, Sajid Khan, and two debutants, fast bowler Ubaid Shah and middle-order batter Awais Zafar.
Home captain Roston Chase won the toss and opted to bat. Mohammad Ali claimed Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 15 in the 10th over. Brandon King was on 32 at that point and the West Indies 49-1.
