Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood smashed a record-quick double century on the opening day of the President's Trophy Grade-I 2025/26.
Shan Masood breaks Virender Sehwag's record
Playing for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited against Sahir Associates, Masood slammed a 177-ball double hundred on the first day of the four-day match in Karachi.
SNGPL were put in to bat after Sahir Associates won the toss, a decision that they would now be ruing. Following the wicket of opener Azan Awais at the score of 53, Ali Zaryab (192) and Masood put on a mammoth 390-run second-wicket partnership - the ninth-highest for any wicket in Pakistan.
Zaryab was dismissed close to his double hundred, having played out 237 balls, but Masood went on to achieve the milestone and finished the day unbeaten on 212 off 185 balls, batting at a strike rate of 114.59.
With this effort, Masood broke Virender Sehwag's record for the fastest first-class double hundred in Pakistan. Sehwag had taken 182 balls to reach his double ton against Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore en route to 254.
Masood also broke the national record for the fastest first-class double hundred by a Pakistani player, previously held by Inzamam-ul-Haq, who hit a 188-ball double century for the Pakistanis against Oxford and Cambridge Universities in 1992.
SNGPL eventually finished day one at 460-2 from 82.1 overs, going at nearly six runs per over.
This was Masood's second first-class double hundred this year, having also made one two months ago for Karachi Blues against Abbottabad, where he remained unbeaten on 250. The Pakistan Test captain now has five first-class double hundreds to his name.
Overall, 2025 has been a productive year for Masood in first-class cricket. His run-tally by the end of day one reads 1,564 from 25 innings at an average of 71.1.
