Indonesia all-rounder Gede Priandana has become the first player to pick up five wickets in an over in international cricket.
1-0-1-5: Gede Priandana sets world record
Priandana achieved the feat during the first game of Cambodia’s eight-match T20I tour of Indonesia in Bali on Tuesday (December 23), which the home side won comfortably by 60 runs. The all-rounder opened the batting, but was dismissed for an 11-ball six.
His opening partner, wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma, then took up the run-scoring mantle, hitting a third T20I century to score 110 off 68 balls, laced with eight fours and six maximums. No other batter could score over 15 runs as Indonesia got to 167-5.
In reply, Cambodia, featuring six T20I debutants, were jolted in the second over with Marcelle Hanekom departing for a duck. Muhammad Naeem followed him on the next ball before opener Shah Abrar Hussain and captain Luqman Butt added 80 runs for the third wicket.
Cambodia weren’t completely out of the game at 106-5 after 15 overs, needing 62 runs, when the 28-year-old Priandana was brought on to bowl his right-arm pace. He struck with Hussain’s wicket on the first ball and then removed Nirmaljit Singh and Chanthoeun Rathanak on the following two deliveries to complete his hat-trick.
Mongdara Sok managed to avoid any harm on the fourth delivery but was dismissed on the next one, followed by Pel Vennak’s wicket after a wide, which completed Indonesia’s victory by 60 runs. Priandana took five wickets in the over to finish with figures of 1-0-1-5.
While this was the first instance of a player taking five wickets in an over in international cricket, the same has previously been achieved in men’s T20s by Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain and India’s Abhimanyu Mithun.

There have also been instances of five wickets falling in an over in international cricket, but those have included run-outs. Priandana is the first bowler to affect five dismissals as a bowler in a single over in international cricket.
