Anmolpreet Singh shines in club cricket in England

Denton West CC 1st XI were bowled out for 229 in 39 overs in their home game against the Woodhouses CC at the Windsor Park. They became 21-2 when Anmolpreet joined captain H Dunlop. Anmolpreet lasted only 49 balls, but that was enough for him to smash exactly 100 with 12 fours and seven sixes as only 19 runs were scored at the other end. It is worth a mention that Anmolpreet had replaced club treasurer Aaron Sutherland for the game.

Dunlop continued to make 70 in 81 balls (six fours, two sixes), but M Aziz (23) was the only other Denton West player to reach double figures as they collapsed against S Prasad (5-38), A Spender (2-28), and J Coote (2-38).

The match turned out to be a humdinger when Prasad (53 in 62 balls, five fours, two sixes) and T Sanghani (42 in 82 balls, five fours) came together at 77-4 and put on 103. From 180-4, Woodhouses then slipped to 182-8, against H Welsby (4-41) and Anmolpreet (3-36).

However, as No.10 S Howard hung on, S Whitehead (35 in 38 balls, two sixes) pushed Woodhouses to within four runs of a win. He fell at that point, but last man Coote hit L Melling for four to seal the game.

Who is Anmolpreet Singh?

A member of the Indian squad that reached the 2016 U19 World Cup final, Anmolpreet made it to the India A for matches against England Lions, Sri Lanka A, and West Indies A. Despite being in contention, he could not break into the national side. In the IPL, he played for the Mumbai Indians in 2021 and 2022, and for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023 and 2024.

The highlight of his career came in the 2023/24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, when his 61-ball 113 helped Punjab (the first ever hundred in the final of the tournament) clinch their maiden title. In that season, he smashed 355 runs at a strike rate of 180.

Then, in the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he hit a hundred in only 35 balls – the fastest by an Indian in List A cricket at that point.
