In a 1st Division match between Alwarpet Cricket Club and Singam Puli in The Raja Of Palaympatti Shield, involving Gujarat Titans batter Shah Rukh Khan, 33 wickets fell on day one.
The Raja Of Palaympatti Shield is a tournament organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association where two-day matches are played. Twelve teams are competing this year with one round of games already completed for each team.
Club game involving Shahrukh Khan sees 33 wickets fall in a day
In the second round, Alwarpet Cricket Club, led by Shahrukh Khan, won the toss against Singam Puli and decided to bat first. Saurashtra left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja opened the bowling for Singam Puli alongside M Mathivannan, another left-arm spinner.
Mathivannan dismissed both openers before going on to take the first five-for of the day (5-29), including the wicket of Shahrukh Khan, who made 16. Jadeja (2-51) and off-spinner Arun B (3-11) wrapped up the rest of the Alwarpet batting as they folded for 95 in 31 overs.
However, Singam Puli couldn't capitalise on the early advantage, as their batters fell like nine pins to Alwarpet spinners Ninad Rathav and Vidyuth P, both of whom recorded figures of 5-14. Four batters made ducks and none went into double figures as they were bowled out for 36 in just 14.3 overs.
The third innings followed a similar script: the three Singam Puli spinners running through the Alwarpet batting line up, this time dismissing them for 104 in 25.2 overs. Shahrukh Khan made 20 off 25 while Jadeja took 5-57, the fourth five-wicket haul of the day.
Set 164 to win, Singam Puli batted for 17 overs in the remainder of day one, knocking off 70 runs for the loss of three wickets. Opener Jitendra Kumar led the way for them, unbeaten overnight on 45 off 52 alongwith Mathivannan.
A total of 87.5 overs were bowled in the day, resulting in 33 wickets at the rate of one every 2.4 overs and 9.24 runs. Not a single ball of pace was bowled as the four-innings match almost concluded on the first day itself.
This is not the first low-scoring thriller Singam Puli have been involved in this season. In their first round match against SKM Cricket Club, Singam Puli fell six runs short of a target of 150 in the fourth innings. Alwarpet, on the other hand, drew with Grand Slam Cricket Club, but conceded a first innings lead.
Shahrukh Khan made a golden duck the only time he batted in that game. In the IPL, Khan has played 55 matches scoring 732 runs at an average and strike rate of 21.52 and 149.08 respectively. The 2025 season was his most productive one, where he scored 179 runs at a strike rate of 179 for Gujarat Titans.
