Fresh from remarkable PSL stint, Bangladesh pacer blows NZ away with second five-for in just 10th ODI

Nahid Rana picked up a five-wicket haul to blow away New Zealand in the second ODI of the three-match series in Mirpur.

Bangladesh seamer Nahid Rana takes second five-for in 10 ODIs

The tall and lanky Bangladesh pacer returned figures of 5-32 from his 10 overs to stop New Zealand at 198, his second ODI five-wicket haul in just 10 games. His career-best ODI figures so far came against Pakistan in March earlier this year, where he picked up 5-24.

Bangladesh fielded first in the second ODI, with a 1-0 lead in the bag, but didn’t allow the Black Caps to get off the hook, with the 23-year-old Rana leading the way. Coming on as the first-change bowler, Rana began his spell with a ripper that nipped back into the left-handed Henry Nicholls and caught him plumb in front of the stumps.

He picked up his second wicket with the first ball of his second over with a bouncer that grew onto Will Young, who could only fend it to backward point. Bowling around the 145 kph mark, the right-arm pacer finished his first spell with only 10 runs conceded and two wickets taken in five overs.

He returned for a second spell to bounce Muhammad Abbas out and dismissed Dean Foxcroft for his fourth wicket on the first ball of his third spell, with yet another one of his bouncers. Rana completed a five-wicket haul with a yorker to Jayden Lennox, which rattled his stumps, to finish with 5-32, his second-best figures in ODIs.

Opener Nick Kelly put up some fight for New Zealand, scoring 83 off 102. No other batter managed to score over 20 as they were bowled out for 198 in a must-win game.

Nahid Rana had a remarkable PSL 2026 stint with Peshawar Zalmi

Nahid Rana is fresh off a remarkable Pakistan Super League stint with Peshawar Zalmi. Bought for PKR 60 lakh at the auction earlier this year, the young pacer took seven wickets in four matches at 10.85 each, while conceding runs at an economy rate of just 5.42 – the best in the league so far – before joining the Bangladesh squad for New Zealand’s visit.

His most notable outing came against the Karachi Kings, where he returned figures of 3-7 from his four overs, bowling 20 dot balls and registering an economy rate of just 1.75, in a 159-run win for Zalmi.
