South Africa white-ball batter Rubin Hermann scored a second consecutive century against New Zealand A today (September 1), building his case for a national recall.
In the second 50-over match of the series in Benoni, Hermann hit 109 opening the innings for South Africa A. New Zealand A were bowled out for 248 after Tshepo Moreki took four-for which included three of the top four. Hermann set about knocking off the target with ease, hitting two fours in the opening over of the chase and reaching his 50 off 42 balls.
Fellow opener Rivaldo Moonsamy was out in the seventh over of the innings, which brought Hermann's younger brother Jordan to the crease. From there, the siblings put on a match-winning partnership, scoring 154 runs between them and both reaching hundreds as South Africa reached their target with ease. The older Hermann was out for 109 off 98 balls, but Jordan finished unbeaten on 101, having reached his century in the penultimate over of the match.
Rubin Hermann builds case for South Africa recall
Hermann made his senior debut for South Africa earlier this year against Zimbabwe, playing all five T20Is in the series. He top-scored in his first match with 45 off 37 balls, and reached his maiden international half-century in the third game, scoring 63 off 36 ball and winning the Player of the Match award. South Africa were without several of their all-format and first choice stars for that series, and Hermann was not picked in the squad's for the Proteas' recent white-ball series in Australia, nor for their upcoming series against England.
