Scotland's George Munsey shattered records with a massive score of 191 against Netherlands in an ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 match today (June 12).
In the 78th match of the Cricket World Cup League 2, Scotland batted first after winning the toss in Dundee. While opener Charlie Tear was dismissed for 23 off 21 in the 10th over, his senior partner Munsey, carried on at the other end.
By the time the fourth wicket of the innings fell, Scotland's score read 162 in 28.4 overs, 84 of which had come off Munsey's bat. The left-hander reached his hundred off 95 balls in the 32nd over before stepping on the accelerator. His next 50 runs came off 37 balls, while his last 18 balls fetched 41 runs.
Munsey was dismissed close to what would have been his maiden ODI double hundred off the fourth ball of the 49th over for 191 (150). Scotland made 369-6 from their 50 overs, the next highest individual score being Matthew Cross' 59 off 49.
Munsey's 191 the highest ODI score by an Associate batter
Munsey's knock is the 16th highest individual score ever in men's ODI history, and the highest by a player from an Associate nation. He broke the record of Ireland's Paul Stirling, who made 177 against Canada in 2010, when Ireland were yet to become a Full Member nation.
It is also the 16th time a batter has crossed the 190-run mark in men's ODIs, making it the fourth score between 190 and 200 in the format. The three others with scores in this range are Fakhar Zaman (193), Saeed Anwar (194), and Charles Coventry (194*). This is also the first time that anyone has scored exactly 191 in a men's ODI.
This is also the highest men's ODI score against Netherlands now, going past Aiden Markram's 175 off 126 balls in Johannesburg in 2023. Among Scotland batters, Munsey has broken Calum MacLeod's previous record score of 175 against Canada. Interestingly, his previous two ODI hundreds were scores of 103* and 106, a far cry from the mammoth score he put up in this game. It is also the highest score of his professional career.
