South Africa A chased 417 at Bengaluru to level the two-match unofficial “Test” series against India A 1-1.

After trailing by 75 runs in the first innings, India A chased down 277 to win in the first unofficial “Test”. In the second, South Africa pulled off an even bigger chase.

India were bowled out for 255 after Marques Ackermann won the toss and opted to field at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1. Dhruv Jurel (132 not out), the only batter to reach 25, lifted India from 126-7. For the visitors, Tiaan van Vuuren claimed 4-52. The visitors’ innings unfolded in similar fashion as Ackermann (134 in 118 balls) took them from 121-7 to 221 as Prasidh Krishna returned 3-35.

Though Abhimanyu Easwaran got a pair, India had little problem in recovering from 116-5 as the conditions improved. Jurel (127 not out) scored his second hundred of the game; Rishabh Pant returned after retiring hurt to smash a 54-ball 65; and Harsh Dubey made a career-best 84. Pant set South Africa A 417 in 101 overs.

The foundation of the chase was laid by Jordan Hermann (91) and Lesego Senokwane (77), who put up 156 for the opening stand. The next two, Test batter Zubayr Hamza (77) and Test captain Temba Bavuma(59) also got fifties. When they lost the fifth wicket, South Africa A needed 65 in 70 balls, but they went for it. Wicketkeeper Connor Esterhuizen (52 not out in 54) and van vuuren (20 not out in 23) got them home with three overs in hand.
