India have named their squads for the one-off Test match and ODI series against Afghanistan in June.
Three uncapped players in India squad for Afghanistan Test
Incumbent captain Shubman Gill will lead India in the one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan at home. However, they have left out and included some key players.
KL Rahul has replaced Rishabh Pant as the vice-captain of the Test side. It is worth a mention that in the absence of the injured Gill, Pant had led India in almost all of the first Test and the entirety of the second Test of the last series India played, against South Africa at home in late 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, or Axar Patel is part of neither squad. Contrary to the speculations around his inclusion, there was no place for veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who has not played for India since early 2025, or the uncapped Auqib Nabi, who had a terrific season for Jammu & Kashmir.
Three uncapped players – fast bowler Gurnoor Brar and left-arm-finger-spin-bowling all-rounders Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar – have made the cut.

India name full-strength batting unit for Afghanistan ODIs
India have included their batting heavyweights – captain Gill, vice-captain Iyer, and Rahul, along with the two legends, Kohli and Rohit, for the ODIs against Afghanistan. The quintet have been India’s top five since before their 2023 World Cup.
However, as with the Test match, there was no place for Bumrah, Jadeja, Axar, or Shami. Brar and Dubey, two of the uncapped men in the Test squad, have made the squad. There is no Suthar, but there is a third uncapped player in Prince Yadav, who has been in excellent form in this IPL.
