Mohit Sharma has retired from all forms of cricket, ending a career that included a semi-final appearance in the 2015 ODI World Cup and more than ten years in the IPL.
Mohit, 37, announced his decision on Instagram, thanking teammates, coaches, and the Haryana Cricket Association, for whom he played since his red-ball debut in 2011.
He wrote: “Today, with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all forms of cricket. From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing.”
A look back at Mohit Sharma’s career
Mohit, who debuted for India in 2013, played 34 international games and finished with 31 ODI wickets and six in T20Is. His finest hour came in the 2015 World Cup, where he picked up 13 wickets across eight games, ending as the team’s third-highest wicket-taker. He picked up a wicket in each game that he played, including two or more wickets in four matches. His best tournament figures of 3-48 – also his career-best – came against Zimbabwe at Auckland. In the semi-final against Australia, Mohit picked up 2-75.
Mohit also had an illustrated career in the IPL, becoming a trusted death-overs bowler for Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni. He first represented the team from 2013 to 2015, picking up 68 wickets at 22.48 across the IPL and the Champions League T20. In the death, he averaged 15.8 at a strike rate of 9.8, picking up 23 wickets.
He also represented Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans. His most successful season came in 2023 for the latter when he picked up 27 scalps in 14 games at 13.37, guiding them to the final. Overall, he played three IPL finals but was unable to win the trophy.
He played in every IPL season from 2013 to 2025 except 2021 and 2022, taking 134 wickets in 120 matches at 26.21. His final appearance was for the Delhi Capitals earlier this year before being released ahead of the 2026 auction.
Mohit also claimed 127 wickets in 44 first-class games between 2011 and 2018.
